A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.
  • Bear Closure - Mount Shark Trails

    Effective:  September 28, 2025

      • Effective Date: September 28, 2025, until further notice. 
      • Where: Shark ski trails, Karst Springs trail, Watridge Lake shark range, area surrounding Watridge lake trail from shark parking to Banff boundary.
      • Why: Several reports of a close encounter with a grizzly bear.
      • Comments: Through traffic should have a minimum group size of 4 and carry bear spray.

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Keep all attractants secure from bears including food, garbage, recycling, pet food and any other scented item. Never leave these items unattended.
    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.
