A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.
  • Construction Advisory - Canmore Nordic Centre Day Lodge

    Effective:  June 30, 2025

      • Effective Date: June 30, 2025, until further notice
      • Where: Canmore Nordic Centre Day Lodge
      • Why: Contractors will begin roof repairs and concrete slab and sidewalk restoration work. Motorized equipment and construction crews will be active on-site throughout July and August, and facility users may experience temporary access restrictions in certain areas. For your safety and the safety of the workers, please obey all posted construction signage and instructions from site personnel.

  • Bear Warning - Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park

    Effective:  June 26, 2025

      • Effective Date: June 26, 2025, until further notice
      • Where: Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park
      • Why: Numerous black bears have been observed in the area.

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Keep all attractants secure from bears including food, garbage, recycling, pet food and any other scented item. Never leave these items unattended.
    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.

  • Wildlife Warning - Larch Island

    Effective:  May 16, 2025   Updated:  June 21, 2025

      • Effective Date: May 16, 2025, until further notice
      • Where: Alberta Provincial Park Locations on Larch Island near the Town of Canmore.
      • Why: Cow Elks Calving.

      Although a warning is in place for these areas, elk can be encountered anywhere in Kananaskis Country and at any time. Minimize your chance of conflict with elk by:

      • Being aware of your surroundings
      • Keeping your pet on a leash at all times
      • Keeping your distance. Stay at least 3 bus lengths away
      • Not approaching elk or their calves. Female elk can be especially aggressive during the May – June calving season
      • Leaving newborn calves alone. (SPRING ONLY) Newborns will spend much of their time alone in their early days and will appear lifeless in order to avoid detection by predators. Their mother is not far away.
