Advisories

A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.
  • Construction Advisory - Canmore Community Fireguard - Harvie Heights area

    Effective:  June 25, 2025

      • Effective Date: June 25, 2025, until further notice.
      • Where: Harvie Heights portion of the Community Fireguard, affecting Tibits Quarry and Ridge Traverse Trails.
      • Why: Due to construction activities associated with the Canmore Community Fire Guard. Large equipment will be working in the area. Trail users must be observant while in the fire guard area and watch for and yield to equipment working and construction activities. Stay on designated trails.

  • Bear Warning - Quaite Valley Backcountry Campground

    Effective:  June 10, 2025

      • Effective Date: June 10, 2025, or until further notice.
      • Where: Quaite Valley Backcountry Campground 
      • Why: On June 2nd, 2025, a Black Bear accessed and damaged an unoccupied tent at Quaite Valley Backcountry Campground. The campground was closed and monitored for bear activity. The campground is now open. Conservation Officers will continue to monitor for bear activity.

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Keep all attractants secure from bears including food, garbage, recycling, pet food and any other scented item. Never leave these items unattended.
    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.

    Please report all bear sightings immediately to 403-591-7755.

  • Bear Warning - Quaite Creek Area

    Effective:  June 3, 2025

      • Effective Date: June 3, 2025, or until further notice.
      • Where: Quaite Creek Trail from the Razor's Edge Junction near the Trans Canada Highway to the junction at McConnell Ridge Route, and surrounding area. Quaite Valley Backcountry Campground remains closed. Razor's Edge and Jewell Pass Trails remain open. 
      • Why: Due to a black bear damaging and accessing an unoccupied tent. 

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

      • Effective Date:  April 3, 2025 until further notice. 
      • Where: Junkyard Climbing Area
      • Why: Temporary closure due to safety risks related to infrastructure replacement.
